“Dumbledore’s Army – Serving with Pride” R.I.P.
I was irritated and disappointed when I received notification from Cafepress that my design, ‘Dumbledore’s Army – Serving with Pride’, had to be removed because of suspected copyright infringement. Yes, as a non-U.S. citizen, I had no idea that according to U.S. law the mere use of the word ‘Dumbledore’ already constitutes an infringement (and honestly I can’t understand how the parody tees work because they mention other brand or product names all the time!)
While I am left with no choice but to let Cafepress remove my design, I can’t help wondering if this has anything to do with my design being PRO-GAY. According to Cafepress’s explanation, Warner Bros. “holds the rights to all the images, words, or ANY CONTENT generated from their movies”. Well, I did a search on Cafepress for HP-related products and guess what? There were quite a lot of them! Some of them bore the D.A. logo, the stag petronus, Hogwarts flag/emblem etc.. I strongly suspect those designs did not have WB’s permission either!
Did other designs survive there because they’re HP-related but NOT GAY-HP-related? I wish I knew the answer!

“I’m the only gay in the village” tee
One of the funniest character in Little Britain is Daffyd Thomas, a gay man who parades around the only gay bar in his village in fancy gay outfits and flamboyant PVC suits. He is obsessed being “the only gay in the village”, and everyone else is either “homophobic” or “just a little bit poofy” (in the case of other similarly flamboyant queens who are so obviously gay).

Who doesn’t love this funny chubby fairy? Daffyd’s got lots of fans and imitators around the world. In fact I’ve even seen Daffyd’s PVC costume available for sale here on amazon!

“Dumbledore’s Army – Serving with Pride” Gay Pride tee
Ever since I heard about the news that the author of Harry Potter JK Rowling had “outed” Dumbledore as a Gay headmaster in the wizardary school, I have wanted to make a t-shirt design on this topic to celebrate this moment of pride. I know that there are “official” “dumbledore pride” t-shirts around on the web, but I feel that a simple “wizards are gay” or “I always knew” statement might not sufficiently express how proud the LGBT community feels about having a prominently GAY character in the most popular children’s/adults’ reading in all times. And this “official” design has got a big Dumbledore cartoon figure which is not exactly my cup of tea.(After all, I’m not so much into wearing cartoon figures and Dumbledore is a very old man…!)
